Artist Statement
My name is Jim, and I am an artist. I paint Caddo Mounds State Historic Site, Lake Nacogdoches, and Chicago. These are places I have been and seen and studied. I research first, then I paint. I like going to new places and then going home and painting them so you can see where I’ve been and how far I’ve come.
I am an artist of truth. I love painting. The paintings from Caddo Mounds have crows in them with the sun because the crows come find me and talk to me and I talk to them. In the Lake Nacogdoches paintings, there are people in boats fishing. There are people in kayaks. There was one boat I liked so much I painted it.
In Chicago the buildings were so tall they were breathtaking. We took the train to Chicago. It was fun and the food was great. I went to the museum and saw Vincent van Gogh’s paintings. He inspired me to keep painting. Shaun Roberts is my painting professor from SFA. He told me about Vincent van Gogh and taught me to paint. I want to teach special people to paint; painting with Jimbo. I hope they like painting as much as I do. I want them to know they can be an artist just like me.
